Exercise Equipment

Postby supRe on Tue Dec 18, 2007 6:20 pm

Wasn't too sure where to post this really, but ah well. I'm thinking about getting some exercise equipment over the xmas, whether it be a skipping rope, or a weight bench, weights, pretty much everything related to cardio/weight training. I was wondering if any of you guys know any good websites that sell the stuff. Of course I could just do a simple search on google, but I thought I would ask you all anyway, just incase you have any good recommendations :)

Cheers!

Get one that is heavy, i.e. made of leather should only cost you about 10 bucks you can get "good" ones for 20 bucks but they aren't that much better. Don't get cotton ones they aren't heavy enough to skip fast.

@ Supre
I got my york vinyl weight set from Argos lol. But there is a York website for the uk >>> York Fitness. I found this as I was browsing for cheap 50kg weights that I plan on upgrading to soon.

Anyone know a good site for cheap 50kg weights?

Are you talking about Disc weight, or ready Weighted barbells, (Bars with the weight already attatched)?

The best kind of weights to get bar none, are disc weight. If you need to upgrade a pair of DB's by 2kg's, from say 10kg-12kg you have to buy 2x 12kg. If you use disc bars, you only need 4x 1kg, 2x1kg for each bar.

it's cheaper to buy the 4kg's of disc weight, than 24kg's of Dumbbell weight, and Discs are easier to stack in neat piles, Dumbbells either have to be lined up in a row, or you buy a Dumbbell Tree at more cost.

try not think of the price for wts...they are expensive but if it's 20kgs brand new it will still be 20kgs in 20yrs time which is unlike any other product out there in regards to durability...for this very reason 2nd hand wt sets are just as good anyway so maybe check out ebay, newspape etc

I'll check out ebay and try and find some that are near to save on postage.
These are the vinyl sets I mentioned earlier >>> Vinyl weight set
I think there filled with concrete or something, but they're sturdy and solid.

Vinyl is just another form of plastic.

It's possible the equipment has a different filling in the inside of the casing, but it's not Concrete, I'm 99.9% certain of that.

Good set, adjustable for the future, but just a shame the weight of the 3 bars is not mentioned, as keeping lifting stats would be more accurate then.
